What to Expect
Integrative massage sessions use a combination of techniques based on your and your body's individual needs and goals. Benefits include reduced soft tissue restrictions and increased mobility, flexibility, comfort, and bodily awareness. Elements of deep tissue work, Swedish massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and assisted stretching may be used, depending on your needs and preferences. These sessions use hypoallergenic lotions or oils and light to very firm pressures with the client comfortably disrobed and securely draped.
New clients complete a brief intake form and waiver when booking online before their first appointment.
Masks are optional for clients. KN95 masks are available just outside the office door. For clients who choose to mask, I am happy to wear a mask for the duration of your appointment. Please let me know before you arrive so I can accommodate.
After you arrive we will discuss your goals for your session and together make a plan for how the session will go. We will will discuss options such as whether you want me to work on one or a few specific areas, head to toe, or focus on upper body. Based on your goals, we may do short assessments of your posture and range of motion to determine what kind of massage will best support you. We may do some facilitated stretches with you fully dressed.
I recommend wearing loose-fitting or athletic clothing.
I will step out to wash my hands, close the door behind me, and give you a few minutes alone in the room to disrobe as much as you need and to get comfortable on the table, covered with a sheet and blanket. Most people choose either to disrobe completely or leave their underwear bottoms on. I will wait for your OK before re-entering the room.
Every session is unique to the individual's goals and needs.
You will be securely draped at all times with only the areas being worked on exposed.
A variety of strokes, pressures, and movements may be applied to: soften or stretch your muscles and fascia to increase mobility and comfort; aid in lymphatic circulation; or simply help your nervous system to regulate.
There will be times when you can passively experience the work and times when you may be asked to gently resist the pressure I'm applying, take deep breaths, or reposition on the table.
Soft ambient music and/or white noise may be played depending on your preference.
The table warmer's temperature can be adjusted as you need in order to keep you comfortable for the duration.
At the end of your massage, I will again step out of the room and close the door behind me to wash my hands, giving you time to integrate and get dressed.
After you are ready, you can open the door. I will return to the room, and we can discuss how the session went for you, identify which goals were met and what could be addressed before and during your next session. This is the time for you to ask any relevant questions you may have. If not already completed, payment can be made at this time. You can schedule your next session if you'd like, although many prefer to book online at their convenience.
